The short version: your farm's information stays on your farm. Velddra keeps it on your phones and, if you use one, on your own farm computer. We don't run a cloud that collects it, we don't sell it, and the apps contain no advertising or tracking.
Where your information is kept
Everything you enter in Velddra (lands and markers, tasks, stock, money, staff, machines, animals and photos) is stored:
- on the phone where it was entered, and
- on your farm computer, if your farm uses one. It's a program that runs on a Windows PC on your farm, and phones sync to it over your own network.
Velddra (the people who make the software) do not receive a copy. The farm computer makes daily backups to a folder on that PC. Where they go from there is up to you.
Who can see what
On a farm with several people, the farm owner decides who signs in. Workers see what they need for their work. They don't see money or pay, and they can't delete records or change the farm setup. Managers and owners see more. People sign in to your farm computer, not to an account with us.
Information about your staff
If you keep a staff register, timesheets or payroll in Velddra, you hold personal information about your employees. Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) your farm is the "responsible party" for it. Velddra is a tool you use to keep it, and it stays on your phones and farm computer. Only record what you need, and protect the farm computer with a password.
When the apps go online
Velddra works without internet. When there is a connection, these features ask outside services for information. They are sent only what they need, never your farm records:
| Feature | Service | What it is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Satellite and street maps | Esri, OpenStreetMap (or Google Maps if you choose it in Settings) | The map area you are looking at, so the right map pictures load |
| Find a place on the map | OpenStreetMap Nominatim, or your phone's own place search | The words you type, e.g. a town name |
| Slope of a land | Open-Meteo (elevation) | A few points inside that land |
These services see your internet address, like any website you visit. Each has its own privacy policy.
Phone permissions
- Location: only to put a marker or your position on the map when you ask for it.
- Camera and photos: only for photos you take or pick (crop diary, animals, machines, problem spots).
- Network: to sync with your farm computer and load maps.
Removing your information
On a phone: Settings → Farm data → Reset this phone deletes everything Velddra keeps on that phone. Uninstalling the app does the same. Records on your farm computer stay there until you delete them or remove the program and its data folder.
This website
velddra.co.za uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. The web server keeps standard access logs (internet address, page, time) to keep it running and secure.
The "Try it" demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you draw or type in it is sent anywhere or kept. When you press Try it, your browser loads satellite map pictures from Esri, which sees your internet address like any website you visit.
